What’s ‘riding the waves’ all about?
In ‘riding the waves’ we acknowledge that motherhood is a journey where mothers under-go many changes - changes in identity, values, emotions, relationships, body, mind, work, finances and purpose.
We recognise that many of us have an experience where the focus is on our child with little support for mums to focus on their own wellbeing. When we don’t have space or support for ourselves we can feel confused, isolated or overwhelmed.
We created ‘riding the waves’ as a dedicated space for you to come together with other mums, to explore the changes of motherhood and ride the waves of these changes with more ease, confidence and joy.
Each session we'll focus on a different theme, introduce some key ideas for you to reflect on and then connect with each other via safe and supportive paired and group discussions.
What can I expect in each session?
Time to chat with other mums without the awkwardness of small talk
A safe space to share your reflections, experiences and questions, without judgement or critique
Facilitated content with time after for informal connection
Time for personal reflection, paired conversation and facilitated group discussions based on the theme of the session
Concepts, practices and discussions that inspire and open up new possibilities of what it means to be a mother
Personal workbook with key concepts, reflection questions and resources
Tea and light refreshments suitable for all dietary needs
Who’s this program for?
This program is for you if you’re:
looking for information and tools to explore your motherhood journey
wanting clarity and perspective in order to find your own direction
keen to meet other mums in the same phase of life, show up as yourself and accept others as they are
We will look to group mums based on their location and/or stage of motherhood.
Frequently asked questions
-
We think you could participate well with a child who is not moving much yet. As mums we are used to concentrating whilst breast-feeding, rocking, baby-wearing or having prams near-by.
When you express your interest please let us know if you have older children that need minding so we can explore solutions.
-
The course if about your journey of motherhood and not about the act of mothering. Other health and education professionals are best for this advice.
You may find that after the workshop in the informal time you can talk with other mums about mothering.
-
The five sessions are designed to connect and build on one another, so we ask you to commit to coming to all. Coming to every session also helps to create connections that may form part of your new support network. Of course, if something comes up on the day that means you can’t attend, we totally understand and respect that.
-
We want you to be comfortable in the space and understand that comfort will be different for everyone. It is not a requirement that you talk in the group.
