becoming mama

A 5-week program of yoga + connection to prepare your mind, body & spirit for motherhood

Are you feeling excited about becoming a mum, and a little nervous at the same time?

Do you sometimes feel like a cog in the birth system, and wish someone cared about your mental and emotional health too (instead of just the physical health of the baby)?

Would you love to meet other mums like you, but worry that you won't belong in a group?

Have you heard that prenatal yoga is good for you, but are a bit scared of trying it?

Then join us for our new 5-week program, 'becoming mama', designed for mums just like you.

By the end of the five weeks, you’ll walk away with:

  • The confidence that you have both inner strength and external supports to enter the next phase of your motherhood journey

  • Connections with other pregnant mums so you can support each other through this phase, and have these bonds when you need them

  • A clearer sense of what supports could help ease your transition into motherhood, and how to overcome barriers to finding or asking for them

  • Simple ways to move your body to make pregnancy more comfortable and enjoyable, and birth more manageable

YOU DON’T HAVE TO DO IT ALONE

What’s ‘becoming mama’ all about?

Becoming a mum, whether for the first or fifth (!) time, is a time of constant change and self-discovery. Of shedding our old identity and embracing a new one. Of navigating our way through pregnancy and birth, and wondering what lies on the other side.

We created ‘becoming mama’ as a dedicated space and time for you to come together with other pregnant mums, come back to your own wisdom in a sea of others’ opinions, and to remember that you don’t have to go through this alone.

Through a combination of gentle prenatal yoga and facilitated discussions, we'll guide you on a journey of connection - with yourself and your baby, your loved ones and your community of support.

Each week we'll focus on a different theme, introduce some key ideas for you to reflect on, take you through a simple yoga practice to get you out of your head and into your body, and then connect with each other via safe and supportive paired and group discussions.

What can I expect in each session?

  • Time to chat with other mums without the awkwardness of small talk

  • A safe space to share your reflections, experiences and questions, without judgement or critique

  • 40 minutes of gentle prenatal yoga suitable for complete beginners and experienced yogis alike, designed to calm your mind and soothe your body

  • Time for personal reflection, paired conversation and facilitated group discussions based on the theme of the session

  • Concepts, practices and discussions that inspire and open up new possibilities of what it means to become and be a mother

  • Personal workbook with key concepts, reflection questions and resources

  • Tea and light refreshments suitable for all dietary needs

Who’s this program for?

This program is for you if you’re:

  • curious to learn how you can enter motherhood feeling confident, trusting in the process and excited about the changes ahead

  • looking for ways to prepare yourself for the uncharted waters of motherhood beyond the physical and practical

  • keen to meet other mums in the same phase of life, show up as yourself and accept others as they are

We welcome any birthing parent in any trimester of pregnancy, up to 38 weeks at the time of the final session.

No yoga experience needed, just an open mind to try.

Frequently asked questions

  • Only you can decide that, but from our perspective, it’s never too early or too late to reflect on where you’re coming from and where you’re headed, and to create the support structures you need. You’re very welcome to join us, no matter where you are in your pregnancy

  • Our prenatal yoga sessions are designed for complete beginners by a qualified prenatal yoga teacher. You don’t need any experience (or even interest!) in yoga before to enjoy the class and see the benefits of moving your body in just the right way for you and your baby. And no matter what, you’ll love the relaxation at the end!

  • No. While we’ll no doubt touch on the subject of birth and birth support, this workshop is not designed to help prepare you physically for birth. We will focus more on your mindset and emotional preparation for birth and parenting. We will however, be able to share resources and recommendations for specialist support providers who can help you with birth preparation.

  • The five sessions are designed to connect and build on one another, so we ask you to commit to coming to all. Coming to every session also helps to create connections that may form part of your new support network. Of course, if something comes up on the day that means you can’t attend, we totally understand and respect that.
